Senior Scientist – Ceramics
RMD’s is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist to lead and manage research projects in the area of ceramic development and fabrication. The candidate will play a key role in developing new research areas and conceptualizing and executing new research initiatives, writing and managing grants, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The candidate will be part of the multidisciplinary group of material scientists, chemists, and physicist to develop novel advanced materials for various applications, including scintillators, lasers, windows, phosphors, and semiconductors in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the execution of scientific and industrial projects from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with the organizational objectives and timelines.
- Conceptualize and develop innovative research ideas and experimental approaches. Identify gaps in the field and potential research opportunities.
- Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding from public and private sources. Manage grant execution, including progress reports, budgeting and compliance
- Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to drive research forward. Mentor and supervise junior researchers, and other staff.
- Analyze research data, interpret results, and publish finding in peer-review journals. Present research at conferences and meetings.
- Engage with funding agencies and industry to alight research efforts with the strategic goals.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field, including emerging technologies, methodologies, and needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph. D. in Material Science, Chemistry, or Physics with 15+ years of academic and/or industrial experience.
- Advanced technical expertise in material synthesis and ceramic development (10+ years of experience).
- Proven track record of leading scientific projects, from conception through execution, and producing high-impact publications.
- Strong grant writing experience with demonstrated ability to source funding from multiple sources (e.g., NIH, NSF, DOE, private).
- Experience managing a team of scientists or researchers and collaborating across disciplines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex research into actionable projects.
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences, including report writing and presenting at scientific forums.
- In-depth knowledge of specific applications where ceramics are used is a plus.
- Must be US citizen or permanent resident.
