RMD is looking to fill a Materials Engineer/Staff Scientist position in the Imaging Sensors and Applications Group. The objective of the group is to develop, evaluate, and apply new materials for use in Imaging, medical physics, and homeland security applications. In this role the candidate will develop new materials in forms such as thin films using vapor deposition and bulk crystals using Bridgman and other methods. Being a self-motivated, hands-on individual who can work in a minimally supervised environment is essential.
Job Responsibilities
- Grow inorganic sensor materials in different forms such as thin films, bulk crystals, and glasses.
- Develop novel methods of synthesis and/or introduce new materials for radiation sensing and imaging.
- Write progress reports, publish scientific papers, and give presentations.
- Work independently and with a team of scientists, engineers and technicians to ensure timely and effective completion of ongoing projects
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in materials synthesis and the knowledge & operation of vacuum systems
- A fundamental understanding of phase diagrams to fabricate new materials in bulk (Bridgman) and thin film form (PVD and CVT)
- Strong organizational skills to maintain and keep labs operational, clean, and safe
- Must be willing to travel (10%) for experiments and conferences
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials science/engineering
Desired Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of radiation detection and/or imaging
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM software, and/or experience with Additive Manufacturing Processes (FDM, SLS, SLA etc.)
