Polymerization

Plastic scintillators are made by a technique called polymerization that involves the chemical reaction of monomer molecules to form a three-dimensional networks or polymer chains, i.e. a plastic. Typical reaction mechanisms are “step-growth” or “chain-growth” polymerization. At RMD we predominately use the “chain-growth” mechanism employing heat and/or free radical initiation to fabricate the plastic scintillators.
